The brief
A family-run hotel that had been refurbished room by room for thirty years. No two rooms matched and the reviews kept mentioning the lighting.
Our approach
One plan repeated in twenty-two rooms: bed on the long wall, a chair and a reading lamp at the window, dimmable light at three heights.
The sample board
White oak
Linen
Lime plaster
Terrazzo
The result
Rooms were finished in batches of four so the hotel never closed. Review scores for rooms went from 8.1 to 9.3 in the first year.
From the journal
